Neville backs Arsenal in title chase

Gary Neville has shared his thoughts on the title chances of Arsenal after their dramatic win at Newcastle.

Gunners show fight at St James’ Park

Arsenal’s trip to St James’ Park looked like another missed chance in their title push. Newcastle got off to an early lead thanks to Nick Woltemade. Meanwhile, Nick Pope made vital saves to keep the Gunners out, but they kept on coming.

Mikel Arteta’s changes had an impact. Merino had been having a great time and then he scored a great diving header to level the score. Shortly after, Gabriel Magalhaes nodded the ball past Pope to send the away end into absolute joy.

Martin Odegaard and William Saliba brought something new to the game. The changes that Mikel Arteta had made turned out positive as well. The win lifted spirits and kept the top of the league in touch. And since Liverpool got caught late by Crystal Palace, Arsenal got the opportunity to draw closer.

Gary Neville names Arsenal as Liverpool’s biggest threat

Gary Neville spoke about the bravery shown by Arsenal. He also thinks that Arteta’s squad has the quality and depth to go all the way.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “There are only two teams who can win this league, Liverpool and Arsenal. I don’t think anyone else can.”

Liverpool’s slip at Selhurst Park means the pressure has shifted. Arsenal have the chance to go top of the league this weekend, should they prevail against West Ham. For Arteta, the example his side set at Newcastle showed they could get results when it does not go to plan. That is a sign of a title-winning team. Neville’s remarks reflects Arsenal’s much improved position since last season when they were ultimately found wanting.

Author’s Opinion:

Arsenal showed real character against Newcastle. If they maintain this resolve in key moments, the Gunners can finally end their long season without a league title.
