Benjamin Sesko has been front and center in Manchester United’s attack this season, but his scoring return—just one lonely goal in six games—feels like sending a striker to a buffet and finding out all that’s left is lettuce. United fans expected fireworks, and so far, they’ve gotten a sparkler in the rain.
Benjamin Sesko Needs a Chef, Not a Waiter
The issue isn’t effort; Sesko runs, presses, and occasionally frightens defenders with his size and speed. The problem is service. Bruno Fernandes is currently attempting to master creativity and defensive responsibility like a circus artist, and Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte continue to lose their GPS in the number six position. United require a midfielder that will take the initiative of creating opportunities rather than providing half cooked scraps.
Benjamin Sesko Could Thrive With Adam Wharton
Enter Adam Wharton. The Crystal Palace dynamo has been winning admirers with his work rate, composure, and ability to ping passes from deep that split defenses cleaner than a hairdresser on double espresso. Against Liverpool, he practically wrote a manual on how to slice open a back line—Palace just forgot to finish the job. Put him behind Fernandes, and suddenly Sesko might be eating more steak than salad.
According to Sources
According to sources, United are eyeing Wharton for January. Palace, of course, will demand a king’s ransom—£60-65 million. That’s fine. United have blown more money on players who couldn’t pass a ball through an empty doorframe. At least this time, the investment makes footballing sense.
Author’s Opinion: Just Do It
Personally? Wharton is worth the gamble. Carlos Baleba is talented but looks like he’s still finding his compass at Brighton. United can’t spend another season wandering aimlessly, missing out on Europe again. If Wharton’s arrival frees Fernandes to create and Sesko to finish, then the Red Devils might finally look like a club that remembers how to score goals before halftime.
