The Real Madrid player, Kylian Mbappe, picked up another injury after an excellent performance with his country. This strikes more worry into the Madrid camp regarding his fitness levels.
Mbappe picks up another injury
Kylian Mbappe returned to join the squad with all the expectation that fans have come to expect. The 26-year-old looked instantly comfortable from the opening qualifier against Azerbaijan, scoring an incredible opening goal and setting up the second goal. It wasn’t too long ago where he had to address nearly a minor ankle issue he sustained last weekend with Real Madrid, from which he was clearly working himself back into a space where he was just enjoying playing again. France wrapped up a comfortable 3-0 victory to maintain their unbeaten run, but that happy optimism faded very quickly, as he clipped his ankle late in the game.
Whether it is Mbappe’s club Madrid sitting in the Spanish capital, or the French team, alarm bells immediately rang in both teams, even as it is rumored that Mbappe was just experiencing a slight issue with his ankle when he was seen sitting on the pitch holding it, albeit without contact from an opposing player. He grimaced as he fell down and waved to the bench before hopping off and he did not leave the field for the full-time whistle, heading right down the tunnel. This felt more like a warning bell for both Didier Deschamps and Real boss Xabi Alonso than a substitution.

Deschamps urges caution on Mbappe injury
Head coach Didier Deschamps said: “It’s the same ankle where he was hurt. The pain decreases when he rests.” That line alone says a lot. France might have won, but all eyes were on the post-match scans. The national team will run further tests to determine the damage, but early signs suggest Mbappe might have escaped anything serious. Still, with a packed club calendar, Madrid fans will be holding their breath.
Real Madrid’s medical team will likely take no risks. They know how much they rely on their new talisman. Since his high-profile arrival, Mbappe has been in electric form, 14 goals and two assists in just 10 appearances this season. He’s also been lethal in Europe, scoring five in two Champions League games. Those numbers underline his importance, but they also explain why Madrid will prioritize recovery over risk. Any recurrence could derail their momentum across competitions.
Madrid’s season could hinge on his fitness
There is no denying that Real Madrid’s attack is focused on Mbappe. He has begun to establish synergy with Vinicius Jr., too much like converting half-chances into goals. Even at 26 years old, he is shoulder the load of few players can do so effortlessly. For Xabi Alonso, who is pursuing domestic and European success, Mbappe’s fitness levels will separate this season from a trophy season to but another season of ‘what if.’
The timing of the injury does couldn’t be more unfortunate. Madrid has important league matches coming up in UCL group stage deciders, which means they will need their best lineup. A slight strain might keep him out for a little, but if he exacerbates the injury, he could be out for weeks, which is time Madrid cannot financially wait to have him back. Managing minutes responsibly will be crucial from here. Both club and country will need to align on that front.
Author’s Opinion:
Mbappe’s recent injury issues are a reminder that even the best players can’t outrun fatigue. Madrid would be better off breathing a sigh of relief if the tests are clear, but they ought to seriously consider increasing their rotation of him. Losing Mbappe for a month generates a much more substantial cost than resting him for a game or two right now.
