Chelsea have received a big lift as two of their key players are back in action for Sunderland game.
Fernandez shines on UCL return
The team of Enzo Maresca had a big celebration after they beat Ajax 5-1 at home in the UCL. Enzo Fernandez was the main reason. He managed to come back from a slight injury and be with the team. His presence was crucial in getting the team the comfortable win.
Fernandez had to miss the last league match of his club against Nottingham Forest due to a minor injury he got while on international duty. He has the intelligence, in terms of both keeping the ball in the midfield and changing the tempo. That made it very hard for Ajax to involve Chelsea in any type of battle. They were very comfortable all the time.
Maresca’s rotating of his squad has also been good for the players. The starting XI will be full of energy and very much ready for the PL clash at the weekend.
Selection headache for Chelsea ahead of Sunderland game
Wesley Fofana’s return to action was a major reason as to why the Blues benefited. The Frenchman was out for a month but has just come back. With the defender’s presence, the squad is once more very potent at the back. That allows Maresca to have more options going into the Sunderland match.
The red card that Malo Gusto received against Nottingham Forest will stand. But, the return of Fofana helps to balance this loss, at least in part. Another attacker in Liam Palmer is well on the road to recovery from his hamstring injury. Although, he will not be available for this fixture.
Author’s Opinion:
Chelsea’s improving fitness news could not have come at a better time. With Fernandez and Fofana back, Maresca now holds the cards to strengthen both midfield and defense. The Blues will be setting the stage for a strong push against Sunderland.
