People have likened the season at Manchester United to observing a toddler juggle knives. Diego Leon has simply come into the picture among all these as the next great hope of the club. Although his tactical overhaul brought the Red Devils back on track, his left wing has caused them a lot of trouble. Patrick Dorgu looks as though lost in the translation, and the Diogo Dalot on the left is a right-handed man who is trying to write poetry with his left hand–a noble effort, but agonizing to behold.
Enter Diego Leon: The Powerhouse in the Pipeline
According to sources, United coaches can’t stop whispering about the 18-year-old Paraguayan’s raw strength and swagger. Leon, signed for a modest £3.3 million, already moves like he’s built from the same mold as prime Antonio Valencia—minus the existential confusion over crossing. He has the speed, the sting and the daring that English defenders jerk.
He has been playing in the U23s, he has looked good in practice, and people say he attacks like a man who still thinks breakfast was the best meal of the day. Amorim might soon have no choice but to unleash him, especially with Dorgu and Dalot taking turns auditioning for the role of “least convincing full-back of the month.”
Author’s Opinion: Give the Kid the Keys Already
Here’s my take—if Manchester United truly want to evolve, Diego Leon deserves his shot. Any generation must have its disruptor and Leon might be that electric shock in a unit that appears to have stagnated in buffering mode at times. His violence, his physicality, his I’ll run through a wall to help the team energy–it is intoxicating.
Amorim’s philosophy uses wing-backs who are flair and fearless, and this kid matches both. If United want their wings to soar again, the answer might already be training at Carrington—loud, fearless, and named Diego Leon.
