Chelsea and Tottenham in transfer battle for Juventus striker

According‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ to different sources, in the January transfer window, Chelsea as well as Tottenham Hotspur are considering the purchase of Jonathan David. He is a 25-year-old player who plays at Juventus as a ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌striker. An offer or no offer is the question both Premier League clubs are asking themselves.

In Serie A, David has not been impressive as he found the net just once after his move to ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌Juventus. Thus, he might be allowed to go at a lower price this winter.

Chelsea’s Ongoing Dilemma in Attack

Chelsea’s move looks illogical as they have already added players for the attack during the summer. However, the manager may still have some doubts about whether he has enough players for the central position.

Looking‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ at his performance in Lille where he was scoring regularly in Ligue 1, it is quite obvious that David has the potential to do well. The moment Juventus decides to let him go, he will probably be up and running with a new team in no ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌time.

Tottenham’s Insistence on Striker

The need for a new striker at Tottenham has become quite obvious. Richarlison and Solanke have not been consistent which is why new manager Thomas Frank is looking for a player who can guarantee goals. One of Spurs’ strengths is the high pressing game and David’s quickness and pressuring the opponent fits in perfectly with their style of play.

Juventus want to make some money on the deal as they signed David from Lille, thus making it financially feasible for the Lilywhites.

Author’s Opinion

Jonathan David still can be seen as a risky bet but with huge potential. His speed, ability to play in different positions, and goal knack are all characteristics that fit well with English football. If things go well and he manages to find his confidence and rhythm shortly after, then a switch to the Premier League would be just what he needs to restart his ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌career.
