Arsenal join race to sign UCL playmaker, in what could be one of the most talked-about moves of the window.
UCL playmaker on Arsenal radar
As per reports, Arsenal is among the clubs that have shown interest in the Portuguese midfielder Vitinha. At the moment, he is quite a delight for the fans at PSG. The brilliant showing he had last year under head coach Luis Enrique has already won over a few teams in the PL.
Vitinha is an ideal midfielder in every aspect. He has top vision and great ball control and stamina and has been a reliable link in the PSG setup. His performances in both UCL and Ligue 1 have proven that he is able to dictate the pace of the match. Reports further say that PSG rates him at about £114m. This is a number that might be a challenge for Arsenal. The North London side already have a midfield that is already very competitive.
Price tag could shape Gunners’ call
Mikel Arteta is very much determined to enhance his team. But, the high price of Vitinha is a worry for the move to happen. The Gunners’ midfield is already filled with good players, and raising such a question might lead to doubts about the team’s balance.
Moreover, Liverpool is chasing the player which increases the competition as well. For Arsenal, the transfer would mean a sign of ambition and a desire to be at the top. But, it would still need strong financial support. It is still unclear whether they see Vitinha as a necessity or a nice-to-have.
Author’s opinion:
There is no doubt about the talent of Vitinha. However, Arsenal needs to consider value and necessity at the same time. Paying a lot of money for another midfielder could be a bad call.
