Dalima Chhibber warns teammates ahead of South American Tour

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Defender Dalima Chhibber has warned her team about the free-flowing style of football played by the South American teams. Fast-paced football is everything they can expect from their opponents during the four-nation tournament which commences on Friday.

The Delhi player has represented Canadian side Manitoba Bisons since 2019. She has first-hand experience of the style of play in the continent.

“I’ve had the experience of sharing the field with players from South America when I had played in Canada. I can tell you that players from this part of the world are extremely skillful. The teams tend to play at a very fast pace. They have a lot of experienced players as well, but we will go ahead and put our best foot forward. We are preparing for something big. If we do well in the Asian Cup, we can qualify for the World Cup as well. So the focus remains on that.” – Dalima Chhibber

India will kickstart the competition with a difficult match against Brazil that boasts the likes of Balon d’or winner Martha on the 26th of November. Brazil, currently ranked 7th in the FIFA Women’s football rankings, are expected to give the Indian Football Team hell. Meanwhile, India ranked 57th, head into the quad-way competition as the lowest-ranked team. With Venezuela and Chile ranking at 56th and 36th respectively, India will be hoping to cause some upsets.

“Brazil are a very big side. They have so much experience playing tough opposition and will play at a very high level. It will be good to carry this experience into the Asian Cup. We will use this experience to push forward together.” – Indumathi from the All India Football Federation.
