Barcelona actively working on extending the young defender’s contract

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Barcelona is probably the weakest when it comes to the full-back positions. The club has only one natural right-back at the moment in Hector Bellerin who is on a one-year deal. Other than Bellerin the club has no natural cover. Likewise in the left-back position, FC Barcelona only has Jordi Alba. Xavi decided to bring in Marcus Alonso from Chelsea but the gaffer prefers the player in the left centre-back position. So, when Alejandro Balde emerged from the B team, he shocked quite a few people even within the club circuit.

Ever since his official debut, the 18-year-old has made the position his own, forcing Jordi Alba to a substitute position from the bench. The player also has earned a call-up to the Spain National Team for the World Cup in Qatar.

Barcelona making moves to seal Balde’s contract extension

Balde’s rise has been nothing short of magnificent. The player made his international debut coming on for Jordi Alba in the 7-0 win over Costa Rica. The player demonstrated his strong abilities in a small period of game time. His run with the ball facilitated Gavi’s first World Cup goal.

FC Barcelona is currently underway to extend his existing contract. The player has a contract valid until 2024. The club reportedly wants to renew him for a minimum of five years while also increasing his release clause up to one billion like the rest of the talents in the squad. Balde will also be initiated into the same salary limit as that Pedri, Ansu, Gavi, and Araujo.

Balde has also stated his intent to continue with the club in the future. In an interview with Helena Condis, the young defender accepted his wish to stay.

“They [club] are working on that. I want to stay at Barça. What has to happen will happen.”
