Al-Qadsiah push £60m for Chelsea talent

Reports suggest Al-Qadsiah have tabled a £60m bid for Chelsea star Andrey Santos. This is sparking questions over his future at Stamford Bridge.

Al-Qadsiah ready to splash the cash for Chelsea star

Saudi club Al-Qadsiah have turned heads with a £60m offer for Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos, as per Fichajes. The youngster is hailed as a special talent. But, he has found it hard to get minutes in London at the moment.

Despite his clear potential, he’s still on the outside of Enzo Maresca’s plans. That makes the interest from Saudi Arabia all the more tempting for the Blues. Manchester United had earlier made an enquiry as well. But, it’s the Saudi side who have put their money where their mouth is.

The west London side have already spent heavily in recent transfer windows. So, this bid lands at a time when balancing the books is a priority. Selling a non-regular for such a hefty sum will naturally get the bosses talking.

Blues’ decision could shape his future

The question is whether Chelsea is prepared to benefit from a player whom many believe has potential to one day be a very good player. Though selling Santos would ease financial concerns. But, then they run the risk of seeing him do well with another team, and regretting selling too early.

The move is also aligned with Al-Qadsiah’s long-term goal to build a competitive team. That is by bringing in the best young players. Santos would likely have a hard time refusing regular playing time and a large contract. That is especially with him being at the stage in his career where he needs to be playing more regularly.

Although, the Blues will have to weigh immediate financial gain against the potential of the player. He is still viewed as one of Brazil’s brightest midfield talents. How the Blues play this hand will be closely watched, as a wrong call could sting for years.

Author’s Opinion:

Selling Santos might look smart financially, but losing him could be a mistake Chelsea regret. At 21, he needs minutes on the pitch. If that won’t come at Stamford Bridge, a move could be best for his career.
