Araujo under scrutiny after Sevilla defeat

Ronald Araujo is under the scanner following a poor performance against Sevilla

A feared night for Araujo against Sevilla

The hope with Araujo return to the starting eleven for Barcelona was to add al little stability to the defense. But, nothing went as expected. In the 2-1 loss to Sevilla, the defender was nowhere near his best He gave away a first-half penalty that turned the tide of the match. His mistake did more than cost Barcelona control of the game.

It also suggested that Araujo is now developing into a worrying trend of form. Hansi Flick chose to sub him off at halftime. That meant more than any comments made after the game.

The disgust from multiple fans who filled the stadium was clear. Araujo had been a strong defender not long before, and suddenly he was the target. Many expressed that his decision making and timing was off. He didn’t have that confidence he held a few years ago.

For clubs like Barcelona where mistakes are magnified, the pressure has never been greater.

Calls for change in Barcelona’s backline

Now, rumours from within the Barca camp suggest it might be time to move on. Several pundits and ex-players have hinted that selling Araujo could open doors for new defensive options. If a player isn’t improving under Flick, maybe it’s better to cash in while his market value still holds.

The situation feels similar to other defenders who lost their spot after a string of costly errors. Barca want defensive reliability. While Araujo has been solid defensively in the past, poor form has been the biggest issue.

Aroujo’s fate is largely dependent on the next few weeks. He either brings consistency to his game, or the club will surely listen to offers with the next transfer window.

Author’s Opinion :

Araujo has the ability but his confidence is clearly shaken. Barcelona can no longer afford defensive errors when the margins are thin. If the club have lost faith in him, a move makes sense.
