Arsenal defender to miss Palace game

Arsenal defender could miss the league game against Crystal Palace.

Arsenal is in doubt whether the defender will be fit for Palace game

Gabriel Magalhaes was heavily involved in the latest UCL against Atletico Madrid allowing him to provide a goal and assist. But, the defender was taken off during the second half. The entire squad showed concern about the player’s fitness right away. Now, Arsenal is not sure whether the defender will be available to play against Palace.

Head coach Mikel Arteta’s first reaction was that it is a minor issue. Although, the boss did not put the star defender in the traveling squad for Palace trip on Sunday. At the press conference, the Gunners’ boss said a decision would depend on the odyssey of the last fitness tests. It would be a big loss for the Gunners not to have Gabriel. The club has built its defense this year on Gabriel pairing with Saliba.

Growing injury worries

The North London side’s boss has had to reduce his picks already since some of his most reliable players are still out of action. The possible absence of Gabriel is even more disturbing. The style of Crystal Palace could test Arsenal’s backline without Magalhaes.

Nevertheless, Arteta continued to see the benefits of the team’s strength. He pointed to the need to grind through the defensive options as if that was achievable through skill and substitution. The capacity of the team to change its role in such situations might once again show their goals at the start of the season.

Author’s Opinion:

If Gabriel is not available, Arsenal’s defense will probably face a good Crystal Palace side. But, head coach Mikel Arteta’s faith in his defensive tactics will be key. Although, he might have to go deeper into his squad to maintain the team’s winning streak.
