Arsenal Eyeing Liverpool Target

Arsenal want to seize move for top Liverpool target Malick Fofana.

Gunners Plot Late Move for Belgian Star

Arsenal will not back down from Liverpool in the pursuit of Malick Fofana it seems. Although, it was suggested earlier this week that the Reds had agreed a fee for the winger.

Fofana is 20 and currently plays for Ligue 1 club Lyon. There he has shown great speed, skill and a direct approach to attacking. He is a target for many of the best clubs in the Premier League. The Belgian has also enjoyed a successful year at Lyon with 15 goals in 62 matches. He also helped his side to a sixth-place finish in France.

Meanwhile, financial issues will see Lyon willing to listen to offers for Fofana this summer. They have placed a value on him of about £52m. Arsenal are also looking to boost their squad further after a busy transfer window.

They see the youngster as a potential addition to compete with Gabriel Martinelli on the left wing. With Leandro Trossard possibly heading to Bayern Munich, space could open up in Mikel Arteta’s attack.

Liverpool Still Lead, But Arsenal Not Backing Down

Reportedly, Liverpool have already held talks with Fofana’s agents. However, Arsenal are not backing down and are closely monitoring the situation. The Reds seem to be in pole position. Also, with Luis Diaz being linked with a move away, that could clear a path for Fofana to join Arne Slot’s plans.

However, the Gunners‘ sudden interest has came as a surprise into the deal. Despite recently signing Noni Madueke, they are still keen to strengthen their attacking depth. Lyon are in need to maximize their earnings due to a 20% sell-on clause owed to Gent. So, they are open to the highest bidder.

That opens the door for a late hijack by the Gunners. They have the funds and ambition to pull it off. With no official bid yet from either side, the race is heating up. Whether Fofana ends up in red for Liverpool or Arsenal remains to be seen. But, his next move could be one of the window’s biggest headlines.
