Arsenal in Talks With Portuguese Midfielder

Arsenal have made serious contact with Bayern Munich over a potential deal for Portuguese midfielder Joao Palhinha

Midfielder Hunt Leads Arsenal to Palhinha

Arsenal want to make changes in their squad ahead of the new season. They are expecting the exit of Thomas Partey this summer. Partey’ contracts has expired this June.

Mikel Arteta’s side has already signed Martin Zubimendi. But, that hasn’t stopped them from exploring other options. As per reports from Germany, the Gunners held advanced talks with Bayern Munich for Joao Palhinha. He is a player who is familiar to English fans from his spells at Fulham.

Joao is known for tackling and controlling midfield play. He joined Bayern in 2024. The player has continuously struggled to make into the starting XI under the head coach Vincent Kompany. He has only featured in 17 league matches since then.

The interest from Arsenal came just prior to the FIFA Club World Cup. Although, those talks were quite serious. But, a deal could not be struck before the player travelled with Bayern for this tournament.

Uncertainty Over Future Could Trigger Move

Palhinha earns a huge £200,000 per week at Bayern. The Gunners were reportedly ready to discuss firm financial terms with the German club. Kompany is unsure about giving him a bigger role next season. So, doubts have grown over the midfielder’s future.

Arsenal see him as an experienced and ready-made solution to fill the gap left by Partey. Not to forget he has his proven record in the Premier League where he led Fulham’s midfield. Although, Palhinha is open to staying at Bayern as of now. However, a strong offer from the Gunners or another top club could turn his head.

For now, Arteta’s team remains interested, keeping a close eye on the movements. If there’s any chance, Arsenal will move fast to bring him back to England.
