Arsenal have reached a full agreement with Sporting CP to bring striker Viktor Gyokeres in a deal worth £64m.
Arsenal Finally Land Viktor Gyokeres After Lengthy Talks
After months of chasing a top-class forward, Arsenal have successfully struck a deal with Sporting CP for Viktor Gyokeres, as per Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners were also in talks with RB Leipzig over Benjamin Sesko. But, they have now got their Swedish hitman. He has impressed heavily in Portugal. Gyokeres has been in red-hot form, bagging 97 goals in just 102 appearances for Sporting over two seasons.
The Swede is known for his strength, movement, and ability to change a game on his own. He has been on Arsenal’s radar all summer. The transfer saga took time as the Portuguese club initially demanded a fee close to £69m. But, the Gunners managed to agree to a package worth £63.5m plus an extra £10m in performance-based add-ons. His agent has agreed to lower his commission to get the deal over the line as well.
UCL Football Key to Star’s Decision
Gyokeres had many options this summer with interest from Liverpool and Manchester United. But the striker had made it very clear from the onset, Arsenal was his first choice. This was most likely due to the appeal of UCL football. His public falling out with the Sporting board seems to have helped the move considerably.
He will likely undergo a medical in London soon. Then he will join the squad ahead of their pre-season. This will be one of several further signings by Arsenal this summer.
The club is looking to win the league for the first time in well over 20 years. It is clear that they want to try and build a squad capable of competing on all fronts. This North London side play will be an exciting watch next season in 2025-26.
