Arsenal left back’s future is uncertain

Arsenal

After a not so good loan spell at Nottingham Forest, Nuno Tavares has returned to Arsenal. The left back spent a season long loan spell at Nottingham Forest. He still has a year left in his contract at Arsenal but still does not know if the present manager Mikel Arteta will use him or not.

It seems that, at the moment, the Gunners are looking for a left back. Zinchenko was not up to the mark which is why Arteta wants a better left back who can solid defensively. Tavares hopes that he gets his chance to shine wearing that red and white jersey.

What are Arsenal planning to do with Tavares?

Tavares’ time at Arsenal is very uncertain at the moment. After a disappointing loan spell at Nottingham Forest, it is very much doubtful that he would start for Arteta’s squad. Tavares himself does not know what the future holds for him. But his first priority for now is to return to Arsenal.

Arsenal bought Nuno Tavares back in 2021 from Benfica for a sum of €8m. In 2022, he was sent on loan at French club Marseille. He felt at home at Marseille, as according to him, it felt like he was at Lisbon. He really enjoyed his time at the French club.

“It was the best moment of my career,” he said of his time at Marseille. “I got some interesting stats. In France, football is more physical, faster than in Portugal. It’s not as competitive as the Premier League, but I really liked French football for its intensity.”

Nuno Tavares when asked about his time at Marseille.

Tavares can be considered as one of the least used players right now. In his year long loan spell at Nottingham Forest, he only started in 12 games for them. Many clubs don’t know his full potential right now. Right now, he has a market value of €15 million so he can be an easy bargain for clubs who lack left backs.

Transfer plans of Arsenal for next season

Till now, there have been no major transfer news for Arsenal on the Internet. The board is mainly observing players playing in the Euro and Copa America. The Gunners are linked with many players and there seems no end to it. Recently, it has been heard that Arsenal is keen on signing Italian defender Ricardo Calafiori. They have also made contact with Barcelona and French defender Jules Kounde over a potential transfer. It is pretty obvious that the Gunners are trying to improve their defense. They did lose the league last season because of silly defensive mistakes.
