Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has stated that he wants depth and quality in his midfield. Now, the name of Jorthy Mokio is on the wishlist, as per CaughtOffside.
The Belgian youngster has rapidly established himself as one of Ajax’s best talent. He made the jump to the senior team after he arrived from Gent a year ago. In addition to being able to play as a defensive midfielder, Mokio is capable of playing at centre-back. That gives options that Arteta also desires. The player appears calm with the ball on his feet. He already seems to play beyond his years.
Meanwhile, Ajax are not in any rush to sell. With Mokio’s contract running until 2027, the Dutch club is in a strong position. That said, sources have indicated that an offer around €25m-€30m will put Ajax to the test. Currently, they see him as a key part of their future.
Competition is beginning to intensify for Mokio’s signature
Adding to Mokio’s desirability is the fact that he is on a rise at the moment. He was recently named the fourth youngest player all-time to play for Ajax in the Eredivisie. He joined the likes of Clarence Seedorf and Ryan Gravenberch.
The Gunners’ midfield is already full of talent. But, Arteta wants to add some more youthful talent. The North London side splashed £255m this summer, showing they are serious about competing at the very top. If Mokio becomes available, Arsenal won’t want to be left behind while rivals like Chelsea and Real Madrid hover around.

Mokio looks like a future star, and Arsenal would be smart to lock him in early. The only question is whether Arteta needs him now or risks watching another big club steal the show.
