Reportedly Arsenal board won’t sack head coach Mikel Arteta even if the club doesn’t win any trophies this season.
Arsenal won’t sack Arteta
Despite plenty of chatter among fans, Mikel Arteta’s job does not depend on winning trophies this year. Ben Jacobs revealed that Arsenal chiefs have not warned the Spaniard about his future if the club end the campaign empty-handed. Instead, the plan is for him to take part in a full season review alongside new sporting director Andrea Berta.
The North London side‘s head coach has already been backed heavily in the transfer market. The investment shows faith in him. This comes especially with the Gunners still in the hunt for all four trophies this season.
Arteta has came very close to the PL crown for the last three seasons finishing second in each. Last season Liverpool had the better of Arsenal to the title. Fans are itching to see the club return to the top after over half of a century. Still, the board is focused on the bigger picture rather than pulling the plug over one season’s result.
Gunners’ hunt for silverware
Arsenal have already started their UCL run with a confident 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao. The Carabao Cup also offers a good chance, with Port Vale waiting in the third round. That said, the Gunners cannot be short of opportunities to end their drought of trophies.
The most important thing for the club hierarchy is moving forward and a level of consistency. Arteta has been delivering stability and a clear style of play. Now, the expectation is to turn that into glory sooner rather than later.
Author’s Opinion:
Arteta isn’t under the kind of pressure many expected, but results will eventually define him. If he turns near misses into silverware, his project at Arsenal could go down as one of the club’s best rebuilds in years.
