Reports suggest Arsenal are prepared to cash in on their star attacking duo this winter following a record-breaking summer window.
Arsenal eyeing exits for star attacking duo
Arsenal’s heavy £255m summer business has left the club weighing up January exits. Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard are the names in the frame.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has reported that both players could be moved on to balance Mikel Arteta’s squad. The competition for offensive roles is already tough enough at the club. The emergence of academy kid Max Dowman only enhances the competition.
Jesus is still recovering from his ACL injury and hasn’t played a minute of PL this season. He was left out from the UCL squad as well. Trossard has at least been slightly more active, making a cameo in the 5-0 triumph against Leeds.
Both forwards are also two of the club’s highest earners, which makes the situation much more uncomfortable as well. Jesus is reportedly earning £265k-a-week and Trossard is on around £90k. Arteta is looking to keep the squad fresh and competitive. That said, the two may struggle to climb back up the pecking order.
Tough choices ahead for Arteta
The real question is whether Arteta is ready to let experienced stars go mid-season. Jesus’ injury problems and Trossard’s lack of game time show a clear picture. Both are struggling to secure meaningful minutes.
Arsenal’s strong start in the league and their ambitions in Europe will require depth. But, keeping high-wage players who rarely play may not be a smart move. Clubs are already circling for Trossard, and Jesus’ future could depend on his fitness. If neither can force their way back into the first team, Arsenal may well cut ties in January.
Author’s Opinion:
Letting Jesus and Trossard go would be bold but logical. Arsenal’s attack is stacked, and it’s hard to see either reclaiming a key role. January could be the right time to cash in.
