Arsenal still interested in Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, despite the expiration of his release clause.
Crystal Palace midfielder still on Arsenal radar
Arsenal’s summer business has been busy, but Mikel Arteta is still pushing for one more name, Eberechi Eze.
The Crystal Palace star had a £68m release clause that expired recently, but that hasn’t cooled the Gunners‘ pursuit, as per Ben Jacobs. Talks have already been had between Arsenal and Eze’s camp. The player is apparently ready to play at Emirates next season.
In the meantime, Palace fans may have been wishing that the expired clause would somehow stop the move. But, the North London club had no intentions of activating it anyway. They also felt they could make a deal for a lesser amount of money, possibly a figure lower than £55m.
The Englishman has no doubt left an impression with his flair, creativity and ability to unlock defenses. That is the type of spark Arsenal missed at key moments last season.
Deal talks continue despite expired clause
Crystal Palace aren’t letting their playmaker go easily. They’ve told interested clubs that any deal must include at least £35m up front, with the rest to follow over time. Arsenal are prepared to match that, confident they can make it work.
The Gunners have already added strong names this summer like Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi. However, adding Eze would boost their midfield in a big way. Personal terms are not expected to be a problem either. Eze is reportedly excited about linking up with Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta.
Head coach Mikel Arteta is building a squad to end their long title drought. That said, the playmaker may be one of the final pieces. The new season is approaching soon. Now, the fans are keeping a close watch to see if this move will finally be completed and be a reality.
