World-cup winner, former Spain and Barcelona legend Cesc Fabregas has expressed his thoughts on Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo.
What Cesc Fabregas thinks about Gakpo?
According to Fabregas the dutch forward is versatile but lacks creativity in his repertoire. He thinks that the player listens to what the manager is saying and perfectly obeys it. This is a good thing for the team because with the help of these type of players a manager can perfectly operate is tactics on the pitch.
But sometime creativity is also important for a team. When a team is playing against defensive load block, a creative player can only break through the defensive barrier.
In BBC one podcast the Spanish legend said, “I think he is a functional player what I have seen of him at Liverpool. It seems to me that he is a type of player who needs to be told constantly what to do, but he has got great ability. He is not the most creative player, but he is dangerous, he has got an eye for goal, he has good movement, he attacks well the space.”
Cody Gakpo’s recent form
Liverpool signed Gakpo for £35m in the last summer transfer window and Jurgen Klopp has used him well in the 2023-2024 campaign. He has shown some glimpses of his talents which proves that he certainly has the potential to become a world-class striker.
In this season, Jurgen Klopp has used him centrally just behind Darwin Nunez. He has performed well as a second striker. Several times he has proved the haters wrong with his brilliant performances. When Darwin Nunez was misfiring, Gakpo helped Liverpool to score goals. Every time he was the extra man in the box. Onn top of that he also assisted Mohammed Salah and other players to score goals.
