Chelsea bid leaves Spanish midfielder unsettled

Spanish midfielder was left unsettled after Chelsea made a €40m bid during this summer transfer window.

Spanish midfielder shaken by €40m bid from Chelsea

Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea’s big-money move for Fermin Lopez not only made waves, but also shook the young man. He rejected the offer, but it caused a lot of rumours that was obviously frustrating for Lopez.

At one point, the player was losing focus as he attempted to brush aside the transfer talks. For a player breaking through at Camp Nou, it’s no surprise the saga caused a few nerves. But credit to him, he’s now showing signs of settling down. He is playing with confidence again, and looking like a proper Barcelona talent.

The Catalan giants will feel relieved they managed to hold on to a rising star in the middle of heavy transfer noise.

The Blues still circling

Chelsea’s interest in Lopez didn’t fade away. The West London club has kept him on their radar for some time. This comes even after splashing big money on other attacking midfielders. It’s clear the Blues are determined to revamp their attacking options.

Enzo Maresca’s side already missed out on Xavi Simons earlier. That being said, it only pushed them to look harder for creative midfielders. The Dutchman moved to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer window.

Lopez fits the bill perfectly. Whether he would be tempted to depart Barca is really the main question to be answered. For now, it appears his heart is set on shining at Camp Nou. But, Chelsea’s keen interest means we may not be finished with this story.

Author’s Opinion:

Lopez staying put is the right call for now. Barca is a brilliant place for him to grow. Meanwhile, Chelsea should find the right ways to work on their new signings rather than chasing any more talents.
