Chelsea boss facing selection problems in midfield

Chelsea are facing selection problems in their midfield. They are set to face Brazilian side Palmeiras in the quarter final of CWC. Enzo Maresca is facing tough challenge due to current issues.

Chelsea defeated Benfica in the round of 16 at Club World Cup. This resulted in them moving ahead to quarter final after a tough challenge. Enzo Maresca was not happy at all due to the round of 16 game being suspended for long time. He asked tough questions to the system.

The long delay resulted in Chelsea blowing away their 1-0 lead. They then had to play for extra 30 minutes in which they scored 3 goals. But, this game has caused some more problems for the club. One of their key player got booked due to which he is suspended for quarter final.

The player in question here is Moises Caicedo. The 23 year old has been one of the most improved players this season. He is a key asset for Maresca but will not be available against Palmeiras. He received yellow card against Benfica due to which he will be suspended.

On the other hand, Lavia is doubtful for selection due to injury. Enzo Maresca has revealed that the Belgian suffered muscular injury in the last game. As reported by The Guardian, Maresca has said that they are not sure wheter Lavia will be fit to play against Palmeiras.

Who can start for Chelsea in midfield against Palmeiras?

Luckily for the Blues, they have a very good squad depth. Firstly, they can use Andrey Santos as like for like replacement for Moises Caicedo. In addition, they can pair him up with either Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall or Enzo Fernandez.

Fernandez has been given a more advanced role by Maresca recently. It was Dewsbury-Hall that replaced Lavia in the last game. Lastly, Maresca also has Reece James as another options. The Chelsea captain is able to play as holding midfielder and Malo Gusto can play as right-back if that happens.
