Chelsea chase Adam Wharton

Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle are circling Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton. There’s a £60m price tag placed on the young midfielder.

Chelsea and other big clubs interested in Adam Wharton

Adam Wharton’s stock has shot up since his breakthrough at Crystal Palace. At only 21-year-old, he has already established himself as one of the smartest young midfielders in the PL.

Palace know they have a gem on their hands and that’s why they are steadfast for £60m. Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle seem to be his main suitors as per TEAMtalk. But Real Madrid and Manchester City are also watching. The Eagles will be deciding whether to cash in or not and risk another season of offers.

Every team in the top tier is searching for a midfield player that can control games. Wharton does just that. But Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle all already have plenty of talent in their squad. So, should he be fortunate enough to choose a move, it could easily define his career.

Where could the player fit best?

Each club chasing Wharton has its own pull. Chelsea have built a squad full of youngsters and could tempt him with a long-term project. But, breaking into a midfield featuring Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo won’t be easy.

Liverpool offer a big stage and a proven record of turning young talents into top players. Although, competition from Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai is no small hurdle. Meanwhile, Newcastle can promise him a central role as they push to become regulars in Europe. That is something that might appeal more than sitting on the bench elsewhere.

Palace will no doubt prefer to sell abroad rather than strengthen a rival. That is where Real Madrid could still enter the picture. But Wharton is likely to stay in England. So, this transfer battle could become one of the biggest stories of the summer.

Author’s Opinion:

Wharton can make it work almost everywhere, but the most sensible bet is at Newcastle if he’s seeking minutes immediately. At Liverpool or Chelsea, he could be just another name in a massive midfield.
