As reports say, Chelsea are interested on Nottingham Forest’s central back Murillo. The Brazilian is on the list of defenders whom Chelsea are planning to buy to improve their squad.
According to football journalist, Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea till now have only asked for information regarding Murillo. They have still not made any direct clubs with the player nor with the team. But the Blues are very much interested on the Brazilian as they seem to move closer and closer towards signing him. If it does happen, Chelsea would already be signing two defenders.
Why Chelsea need Murillo
Chelsea’s previous season was a roller coaster. The team was very inconsistent with their performances. Out of that Chelsea squad, only a few individuals could help the team stay on track. The Blues spent most of their time in the bottom half of the league table. However, with a good form by the end of the season, they managed to finish 6th in the league. Still, the manager Mauricio Pochettino got sacked and many players are leaving or planning to leave the club.

With the appointment of a new manager, Enzo Maresca, Chelsea are on a hunt on finding players who could bring a change. They are especially focusing on their defence as they made several defensive mistakes last season which costed a lot. Chelsea started their transfer saga with Tosin Adarabioyo and now they are interested in signing the Brazilian defender from Nottingham Forest, Murillo.
Murillo has attracted quite a number of big clubs after playing for Nottingham Forest last season. In his breakout season with the Reds, he played 35 games in all competitions. He is a rock solid defender who doesn’t hesitate to tackle. With an incredible tackle rate of 1.6 per game, he has definitely the potential to shine. He is a solid defender on the ground, however, lacks in presence on air.
Are Chelsea buying too many defenders?
It is clearly understood that Chelsea wants to buy centre backs. The team has been overcrowded with central backs as the Blues still have Disasi, Chalobah and Badiashile. It has also been reported by Fabrizio that Chelsea will be signing Kiernan Drewsbury-Hall soon. It has been confirmed as the reporter used his ever-famous phrase ‘here we go’ on this transfer.
Buying so many defenders can be a charm or a curse. Everything depends on how the team plays next season. Everyone is very much eager to watch how the Blues play next season.
