Chelsea handed Joao Pedro and Andrey Santos injury relief

Chelsea can breathe a little easier as Joao Pedro and Andrey Santos remain in London to continue recovery instead of joining Brazil.

Key players spared from Brazil duty

For once, luck has tilted Chelsea’s way. The squad is already stretched thin by knocks and setbacks. Now, the news that Joao Pedro and Andrey Santos won’t be joining the Brazil camp comes as a blessing.

The duo were absent from the October friendlies against South Korea and Japan. This allowed them some rest and recovery back home. Fans were worried that during the international window, Chelsea could lose more players to injury. But, it has instead been beneficial. The two of them now have more time to return to Cobham and recover. Meanwhile, the blues prepare for a tough trip to Liverpool this weekend.

Recovery path for Andrey Santos and Joao Pedro

Santos’ injury came before the 3-1 league defeat to Brighton. That saw him miss that game along with the midweek UCL win over Benfica. Maresca said the 20-year-old midfielder wouldn’t be back until following the break. But, being in London accelerates his return to the pitch.

On the other hand, Joao Pedro has been recovering from a minor injury. It showed against Benfica when he came on as a sub and saw red after two quick yellow cards. The forward has not scored since bagging a brace ahead of the September international break. So, the time spent away may provide him with some physical and mental reset.

Chelsea need Pedro’s spark and Santos’ energy when the schedule picks up again later this month.

Author’s Opinion:

Chelsea have been desperate for positive news, and this feels like a turning point. Keeping Pedro and Santos in London is less about luck and more about timing. Maresca now has a clearer picture of his squad before the season’s next push.
