Chelsea have set their sights on Jonathan David

Chelsea

The Blues are in search of a proper number nine. Canadian forward Jonathan David is certainly a target for Chelsea.

Why Chelsea want Jonathan David?

Jonathan David is currently playing for top-tier French club Losc Lille where legendary players like Eden Hazard used to play. The Canadian forward is in red hot form. He has scored 71 goals out of 147 appearances for Lille. In the French club he has become a world-class striker. At this moment he is capable of bagging 30 plus goals in a season.

The young forward has multiple attributes. Every opponent fears his blistering pace and flashy flair. On top of that he can convert difficult chances into goals. He can score with both feet. For these multiple qualities he is the dream striker for teams like Chelsea. He has drawn attention from all over the Europe. Chelsea, West Ham, Aston Villa are said to be interested to sign the striker.

There is another twist in Chelsea’s transfer plan. The Blues have found it difficult to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa because they want to keep the striker at the Villa Park. They are doing this because they can sell Ollie Watkins to raise funds to avoid punishments for breaching PSR rules. For this reason Chelsea have set their sights on this talented Ligue 1 striker.

Possibility of the transfer

According to several reports, Jonathan David’s price tag will be around €50m. Nowadays, this amount of money is justified for any elite striker who has scored 70 plus goals out of 100 plus appearances.

In 2022, when Arsenal signed Gabriel Jesus, the gunners were also linked with the Canadian striker. At that moment, Arsenal went for Jesus because of his form and experience. Transfer market experts like Fabrizio Romano is surprised because the player has been talked about for so long but no club has taken a step to sign him. There can be several reasons for this incident. Several sources are claiming that the striker wants to stay in Lille because he is happy at the French club.

Sources are also claiming that the striker want to show his talent in the World Cup and after that he will listen to these offers. So, at this moment there are less chances of signing the striker. But Chelsea have a good relationship with Lille because together they have done good business in the past. For example Chelsea bought their maestro Eden Hazard from Lille. Yet this transfer is a difficult one for Chelsea unless the Blues are offering any lucrative deal to the player and the club.
