Barcelona academy product Marc Guiu is set to join the Blues at Stamford Bridge. Few days ago Chelsea activated his €6m release clause.
Chelsea’s number nine curse
After Didier Drogba and Diego Costa Chelsea haven’t found a stand out number nine. According to The Trivela Effect the Barcelona forward has a release clause of €6m. the Blues can certainly pay this amount of release clause. Several other clubs are also interested to sign the player. Currently Bayern Munich is competing with Chelsea for the striker but several news are claiming that the Blues are ahead of the German giants in Marc Guiu transfer saga.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said, ‘Chelsea are advancing in talks to sign Marc Guiu by triggering €6m release clause. The agreement with Guiu on long term deal is getting closer, Bayern overtaken after positive talks this weekend. Barça offered Guiu new deal — still no final answer from player’s side.‘

On 28 June Fabrizio Romano twitted a ‘Here We Go’ for Barcelona player Marc Guiu. He said, ‘Marc Guiu has completed medical tests as new Chelsea player tonight in London! The release clause worth €6m has been paid, Barça have been informed with formal document. Guiu signs as new Chelsea player on deal valid until June 2030. Here we go, now confirmed.‘
Why Guiu is leaving Barcelona?
The young Spaniard made his debut for Barcelona when Xavi was their head coach. Now Hansi Flick has replaced Xavi at Barcelona. He will certainly pick Robert Lewandoski for most of the games in upcoming season because he has previously worked with Robert at Bayern Munich. Then players like Marc Guiu will be at the bottom of the pecking order. So, he will not get a chance to play for the Catalan side and the young Spaniard wanted more game time. That is why he has joined Chelsea.
