Chelsea have started talks to appoint Tuchel to replace Pochettino

Chelsea have started talks to appoint ‘world class’ manager who plays ‘scintillating’ football.

Chelsea have opened negotiations to appoint a ‘world-class’ manager to replace Mauricio Pochettino, according to a recent report. The Blues ended the season strongly, winning four games, including a 5-0 demolition of West Ham United.

It’s a little surprising that Pochettino’s future remains in the balance. However, Todd Boehly appears to be considering a change. It has emerged that they are in talks with a manager, who Manchester United are also looking at.

Chelsea in talks to appoint Thomas Tuchel

According to Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea are in talks to reappoint former manager Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel is set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season. Tuchel will either take a break or return to the Premier League. Manchester United are also said to be considering a move for the Bayern boss and both clubs are ‘concrete destinations’.

Tuchel is widely considered a ‘world class’ manager and his style of play has been described as ‘scintillating’.

The Blues should place their trust in Mauricio Pochettino

Chelsea should place their trust in Pochettino and keep him in post for at least another year. It seemed his side had gelled towards the end of the campaign. Also, there’s no reason why he can’t be successful at Stamford Bridge.

Any discussion of an exit feels far too premature. Moreover, even if they are to replace him, returning to Tuchel could be a mistake.

Boehly would have to convince Tuchel that he’s got his full backing, having sacked him less than two years ago.

Chelsea appointed Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager in the summer of 2023 after interim boss Frank Lampard left the club. Pochettino’s move to Stamford Bridge was a bit controversial because of his past allegiances with rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Todd Boehly ignored those concerns and handed Pochettino the job. The 52-year-old has come under enormous criticism at Stamford Bridge for some of Chelsea’s performances. At the turn of 2024, it looked very likely that he would be sacked.

Chelsea were even linked with moves to appoint other managers. However, after Chelsea’s strong end to the season, Pochettino’s fortunes look a lot better. Chelsea finished just three points behind Tottenham.

Todd Boehly’s plans for Mauricio Pochettino

Fabrizio Romano has shared the latest on the situation. Moreover, he has revealed that Pochettino really wants to stay at Chelsea for the upcoming season. Fabrizio revealed that Boehly’s ‘priority’ now is to hold talks with Pochettino to see if they can continue together for another year.

“Mauricio Pochettino is waiting to have direct contacts with Chelsea over his future – it’s not easy, because unlike at some clubs where there is just one owner or one director, at Chelsea there are many people involved to make sure Pochettino is happy with the project at Stamford Bridge, and that they are happy with him.

“Of course, Pochettino wants to continue – he is really convinced by what he and his coaching team can offer, and by the skills of these players. Still, the meeting will be important to understand if they’re all on the same page.

“In case Chelsea and Pochettino decide to part ways, the Blues’ idea is to go for a young coach rather than an experienced coach.

“That’s the feeling today, that’s the current idea – to discuss with Pochettino and understand if they can continue together, which is the priority, but if they can’t agree on terms then keep an eye on young managers for Chelsea.”said Fabrizio Romano.
