About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Chelsea are rumoured to sack their current head coach Frank Lampard. Brendan Rodgers, one of the possible leading managers, to replace him?

The Blues are struggling in the Premier League and are 9th in the standings. The London side are in poor form with 3 wins and 4 losses in last 10 matches so far.

Frank Lampard is facing the pressure for his second season in a row with Chelsea, he previously flourished as a midfielder. Let’s have a look at the 5 possible replacements!

5. Massimiliano Allegri:

Massimiliano Allegri is one of the possible candidates to replace Frank Lampard. He prefers the 4-3-3 attacking formation and has an excellent average goal per match rate of 1.89.

The 53-year-old Italian was able to help AC Milan win the Serie A in the 2010-11 season and then, the Italian Super Cup in 2011-12.

Allegri had a wonderful time in Juventus winning around 191 matches in his total 271 matches that he managed.

However, the Turin club lost him after the 2018-19 season, Maurizio Sarri replaced him.

Chelsea have recently tasted some delicious Italian flavoured football in the form of Maurizio Sarri and Antonio Conte. However, the tactics didn’t work for the Blues.

4. Lucien Favre:

Lucien Favre was one of the big names in the Bundesliga although his former team Borussia Dortmund let the supporters down at times.

He prefers the 4-2-3-1 formation and Christian Pulisic was one of his key players during his stint at the German club.

Under Favre, die Schwarzgelben were simply an unstoppable team challenging their rivals Bayern Munich.

The 63-year-old tactician got sacked recently and would be keen on having some new experience in the Premier League.

3. Ernesto Valverde:

Ernesto Valverde had been a real fighter renowned for his stints at Athletic Club Bilbao and FC Barcelona.

Valverde prefers a 4-3-3 formation and has a very good average points per match (PPM) rate of 1.81.

The 56-year-old manager hasn’t managed or played beyond Spain. However, with players like Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcus Alonso, things might get better.

He was the history-maker with Barca, keeping the club unbeaten for 43 matches in a row in the La Liga. It would be an epic matchup for Pep Guardiola if Valverde joins the Blues.

2. Thomas Tuchel:

Thomas Tuchel is one of the managers that can make unthinkable things happen. He helped Paris Saint Germain reach the final of UEFA CL 2019-20.

He prefers the traditional 4-3-3 formation and has an excellent average PPM of about 1.89.

The 47-year-old head coach won a domestic treble in the 2019-20 season although missing on the continental treble after losing the CL final.

However, the German coach would benefit from the style of play for Kai Havertz and Timo Werner, whose form has been concerning for the Blues. A possible reunion with Christian Pulisic and Thiago Silva would be great.

1. Brendan Rodgers – a possible replacement for Lampard at Chelsea:

Brendan Rodgers has been tipped as the “favourite” to replace Lampard. He has now an average PPM of about 1.64 and was a youth team coach for the Blues under Jose Mourinho in the 2006-07 season.

However, the London side have some dislikeness towards him as he used to say that Liverpool was a massive team and Chelsea were a bit weaker.

Rodgers is currently the head coach of Leicester City and is building up a strong team.

However, as per Chelsea legend John Terry, Rodgers is doing 100% as a manager for the Foxes.

“He’s doing great at Leicester, I’m sure he’s got targets to go and achieve at Leicester.”

Terry had mentioned Rodgers as a motivator as he helped Terry score a goal after nine goal-less matches for the Blues during his 2004-05 season as per football.london.

Chelsea next face Morecambe in the FA Cup 3rd Round and the pressure on owner Roman Abramovich is building up.
