Chelsea ready to pay big to get rid of Sterling

Raheem Sterling is rumored to be leaving Chelsea. The club wants to terminate his contract. They are even willing to pay a hefty sum to move him off the wage bill.

Sterling and Chelsea to part ways ?

Raheem Sterling arrived at Chelsea for in 2022. But, the move hasn’t gone as planned. The player struggled to earn his place at the Blues. He spent last season on loan at Arsenal. He scored just once in 28 games.

Chelsea have long been looking to trim their squad and reduce their wage bill. The winger’s £300,000-a-week deal has become a major issue. Clubs like Fulham showed interest, but the forward’s high demands kept a move from going through.

Now, reports suggest that the west London side are considering ending his deal early to finally clear the issue. They are even ready to spend big if it is required.

Potential exit options and financial hit

The talks could see Sterling paid £10-20m to end his deal. That is a sum not far off some club transfers. Making him a free agent would let him explore options elsewhere. With clubs abroad in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Portugal are likely being his potential destinations.

While Sterling appears reluctant to move to Saudi Arabia. But, these clubs can meet his wage demands. If no agreement is reached, Chelsea could be forced to keep him in the reserves until the next transfer window in January. This will be an awkward situation for both player and club. Chelsea’s priority seems clear, either free up wages or risk further squad tension.

Author’s Opinion:

Chelsea are playing a costly but necessary gamble here. Raheem Sterling’s talent is undeniable, but the numbers just don’t add up for Stamford Bridge. That said, trimming the wage bill may be the only solution.
