Reports suggest Chelsea are not alone in eyeing Malick Fofana, with Bayern now in the frame for the winger.
Bayern enter the race for Chelsea target
Chelsea’s hunt for fresh firepower in attack has taken a twist. Now, German giants Bayern Munich are tracking Lyon winger Malick Fofana. The Belgian has already been flagged as one to watch. His €50m price tag looks like a fair deal for a player with his speed and versatility.
Christian Falk, a trusted German journalist, revealed Bayern’s interest, putting the Blues on alert. Chelsea already had Fofana on their shortlist alongside names like Morgan Rogers and Kenan Yildiz. But, Bayern’s presence in the mix raises the stakes. Lyon’s record of cashing in on young stars only makes a transfer feel even more likely.
Blues’ plans and Munich’s advantage
For now, Chelsea’s top attacking target remains Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, meaning Fofana is not their first choice. That could play into Bayern’s hands, especially if they move quickly to secure the winger.
Falk has also hinted that Fofana could be lined up as a possible replacement if Michael Olise leaves Bayern. Liverpool and Manchester City are keeping tabs on the Frenchman.
Meanwhile, Chelsea may still push for Fofana if they fail to land Rogers. Bayern’s clear need for a wide option might make them favorites to sign the Belgian. Either way, Lyon seem open to selling. That said, Fofana looks set to be one of the next big names moving out of Ligue 1.
Author’s Opinion:
Chelsea risk losing out if they delay a decision, because Bayern are never too far behind when they smell talent. Fofana has the tools to succeed in either league. But, the West London side need to act quickly if they intend to have him as part of their rebuild.
