Chelsea are doing bits this summer. The Blues want to pull off a double transfer swoop for Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho, but at the moment it is Simons that is at the top of their rubric. As Enzo Maresca reshapes his squad, Stamford Bridge could soon have a pair of Europe’s most exciting young talents – if everything falls into place.
Xavi Simons: Chelsea’s main focus
Xavi Simons headlines Chelsea’s summer wishlist after catching their eye. The Blues are currently in negotiations with RB Leipzig, who now have the Dutchman after an initial loan deal from PSG turned permanent earlier this year. Leipzig are insisting they want €70 until add-ons, and Chelsea are willing to pay that. Chelsea had already agreed terms with the player and were close to signing him.
Simons, who has been praised for his flamboyance and tactical astuteness, has appetite for Premier League action. Chelsea consider him a future stalwart under Maresca and a perfect mould for their high-pressing, flexible attack. Conor Gallagher has departed for Atlético Madrid, Carney Chukwuemeka facing an uncertain future, the need for midfield reinforcement is urgent—and Simons ticks every box.
Garnacho interest remains real
As for Simons, he’s first choice – but that deal could now hinge on Garnacho. Chelsea have watched the Manchester United winger for months and are now pushing to make their move. Garnacho would cost from €70m plus, and United are reluctant to do business – but Chelsea will swoop if a crack forms ajar for them later in the window.
There’s “not impossible” talk of a double deal, say insiders. If Chelsea play Financial Fair Play right, then we could see both Simons and Garnacho rocking up at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea fans, buckle up tight. Simons is on the runway and Garnacho’s jet could be on circle the tower.
