Chelsea have completed the signing of Joao Pedro. They have paid more than £50 million for him to Brighton & Hove Albion. The latest reports reveal why the Brazilian opted to sign for the Blues despite having interest from other clubs.

Chelsea started the summer window with signing Liam Delap. The 22 year old costed them only £30 million due to Ipswich Town getting relegated. This gave the Blues a chance to sign another striker. The West London club took the chance and started to monitor more strikers.

Chelsea wanted a different profile this time. They wanted a striker who can also play in wide areas. Firstly, they were linked with Hugo Ekitike. But, Frankfurt want €100 million for the French star. Hence, the Blues opted to shift their focus to other striker options.

The striker who caught the attention of Chelsea this time was Joao Pedro. He is 23 year old Brazilian striker who played key role for Brighton. He is able to play as all striker, winger and attacking midfielder. But, Pedro was also wanted by Newcastle United who were making strong moves.

Chelsea defeated Newcastle in the race to sign Pedro. They have agreed to pay more than £50 million to the Seagulls. The Brazilian has already undergone medicals and has signed a 7 year long contract. Now, the reason behind why he opted to sign for the Blues have been revealed.

Why did Joao Pedro sign for Chelsea?

According to talkSPORT, Pedro opted to sign for Chelsea because he believed he can be a regular starter for them. The 23 year old believes that playing regularly for the Blues will help him hold his regular spot for Brazil national team at the World Cup 2026.

However, it will not be easy for Pedro to claim the regular starting spot. He will face heavy competition from Liam Delap who is already impressing. In addition, Nicolas Jackson is also at the club who will hope to regain his top form. It will depend on who Enzo Maresca thinks can play a vital role upfront.
