Chelsea have almost wrapped up the signing of Liam Delap. But, they are keen to pair him with another number nine. The Blues have French star on their radar but will face competition from Liverpool.
Chelsea have beaten multiple clubs in signing of Liam Delap. The 22 year old has opted to join them as his next club. Earlier, he worked with Enzo Maresca who is said to have played a big role in the pursuit. The Blues have beaten Man United, Newcastle and Everton in the race.
Chelsea keen to sign another striker
The West London club is keen to add another striker to their unit. According to Caught Offside, they are showing interest in Hugo Ekitike. They believe that the French striker will bring in tactical stability to their squad due to him being able to play in wide areas.
Ekitike is also 22 years old and currently plays for Frankfurt. The German club want €100 million for him. Ekitike had a superb season and hence will be a hot topic in transfer market. He scored 22 goals and picked 12 assists for the club.
However, Chelsea are not the only one in race for Ekitike. He is also wanted by their Premier League rivals Liverpool. The Reds are ready to move-on from Darwin Nunez. In addition, they might also opt to sell Diogo Jota who has been inconsistent.
Frankfurt are in no hurry to sell Ekitike. Hence, they will stick with their original demands of €100 million. Both Chelsea and Liverpool may hesitate to spend this amount on Ekitike. But, they can also view the French star as long-term investement and move ahead in the pursuit.
As of now, Liam Delap will be the main number nine at the club. He will surely play over Nicolas Jackson who has been highly inconsistent. The Blues are also said to send Marc Guiu on loan this summer. Enzo Maresca will have a lot of work to do in the coming days.
