Chelsea’s view on Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is clear. The Blues aren’t planning on making a move for him for the upcoming window.
Chelsea cool on a reunion for Crystal Palace captain
Marc Guehi has been at the center of plenty of transfer chatter after running down his Crystal Palace contract. Liverpool’s interest in the summer was no secret. The defender is free to walk next year, so a January deal is back on the table.
But for Chelsea, the buzz doesn’t match their plans. The club has bigger issues at the back. Levi Colwill is out for most of the season after an ACL blow and Benoit Badiashile only just returning to action.
On paper, Guehi looked like a sensible option. He is an academy graduate, proven Premier League quality, and available at a good price. But, TEAMtalk suggests the Blues aren’t pushing hard, at least for now.
Liverpool keeping the door open
The Englishman is in his prime and won’t be short of suitors. Liverpool remain in the mix, and given their defensive struggles, Guehi fits the bill perfectly. Chelsea know his strengths. He has composure, reliability, and leadership. Although, the west London side appear hesitant to reignite old ties. That doesn’t mean the door is shut.
January is long, and a defensive crisis could change the Blues’ stance overnight. For now, it feels like Liverpool are in a stronger position if they want to get the deal done. Guehi himself will be tempted by a big stage, and both Anfield and Stamford Bridge remain top destinations.
Author’s Opinion:
Chelsea might regret not acting quickly on Marc Guehi. With injuries piling up, passing on a proven defender could backfire. If Liverpool swoop in and land him, the Blues could be left watching one of their own shine elsewhere.
