Diogo Dalot rejoined the full Man Utd squad at Carrington on Tuesday, giving the team a fitness boost. The Portugal right-back had been on the sidelines since suffering an injury while on international duty, a period which saw him sit out crucial Premier League clashes with Manchester City and Chelsea.
Dalot’s Return and Squad Preparations
Dalot’s last game was a memorable one, setting up Bryan Mbeumo with a fine assist in United’s 3-2 win over Burnley at Old Trafford. The defender on Monday trained with the rest of Ruben Amorim’s squad as they prepared for Wednesday night’s trip to Brentford in the Premier League. The game at the Gtech Community Stadium begins at 12:30 BST on Saturday.
Cunha and Mount both returned from short injuries to appear off the bench against Chelsea, giving Amorim plenty of selection choices. Young midfielder Sam Mather also joined the group, training under sunny skies that contrasted sharply with last weekend’s torrential rain.
Squad News for Brentford
Not all of United’s players will be available for the Brentford game. Casemiro will miss the fixture after the referee sent him off against Enzo Maresca’s men, resulting in a one-match ban. Therefore, Amorim must manage his squad well and expect rotation to occur through necessity, with a busy period of fixtures. He will be giving an update on his entire squad later in the week leaving everyone guessing about his selections.
Author’s Opinion
It is a timely boost for Man Utd to have Dalot back. And with some of his attacking and midfield threats now returning, Amorim has more scope to freshen things up and manage the squad. Moreover, if Dalot return to match fitness in quick time, he could play a key part in the side’s battle for consistency this season. He brings impressive attacking prowess to the right flank and it is something that could make the difference on Saturday, and beyond.
