Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrović is on his way to Bournemouth on a £25million permanent deal. The Serbian goalkeeper agreed to a five-year deal with the Cherries and will undergo a medical early next week.
Bournemouth Reach Agreement with Chelsea for Djordje Petrović
Bournemouth have agreed to sign Petrović permanently from Chelsea, having spent last term on loan at strasbourg. The 25-year old netted five times from 33 Ligue 1 appearances last season as his side finished seventh in the table and booked a spot in Europe for the French side.
However, despite his displays, Chelsea could not offer Petrović first team football. With the club already stacked in the goalkeepers – they possess Robert Sánchez, Gabriel Slonina and Lucas Bergström – and Chelsea were willing to negotiate. Djordje Petrović also failed to turn up for the Club World Cup squad in June, choosing instead to wrap up his departure.
There was a “gentleman’s agreement” in place during his loan at Strasbourg: if a Premier League club bid £25 million, Chelsea wouldn’t stand in his way. Bournemouth wasted no time putting that theory into action once they had identified Petrović as their preferred candidate.
Bournemouth’s New No. 1
After Kepa Arrizabalaga was reunited with Chelsea then loaned to Arsenal, Djordje Petrović is the answer between the sticks for a number of years. He adds that extra Premier League experience having had a short stint at Chelsea in addition to a good season in France.
The Cherries feel confident they’ve found a reliable custodian of the onion bag in Petrović, impressed by his reflexes, distribution, and penalty-handling skills. They are hoping to finalize the agreement after he undergoes his physical next week and intend to announce it soon thereafter. Chelsea, meanwhile, are continuing to cut their squad and free up funds for reinforcements in other positions.
