Dortmund keen to re-sign young Chelsea midfielder

Borussia Dortmund had one Chelsea star on loan for half of 2024/25 season. They are keen to re-sign him this summer. But, the German giants are finding it hard to match Chelsea’s transfer fee valuations.

The star in question here is 21 year old Carney Chukwuemeka. Chelsea signed him in summer 2022 from Aston Villa as a talented youngster. But, the player has been unable to impress at West London. He played only 32 games in two and half seasons before being sent on loan to Dortmund in January.

Dortmund keen to re-sign Chukwuemeka

Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl was recently asked about Carney Chukwuemeka. He expressed the desire to re-sign the 21 year old. But, he also opened up about the challenges they will face in signing the youngster permanently.

“We will definately have some more discussions in the next few days about his situation. I think it was a good move from Carney to join us. Now let’s see how we manage everything. It won’t be easy but we will try to keep him because he is a very good player” – Kehl about Chukwuemeka via BBC Sport.

Chelsea are demanding £40 million for Chukwuemeka. But, Dortmund are finding it hard to match these figures. Kehl also had his say about this situation where he said why loan deals are easier than permanent deals.

“It’s always easier to loan a player than buy one, espcially within Carney’s range. But let’s see. We’re not that far advanced at the moment, but I can tell you that we are pretty close to the player, and he loves Dortmund. Everything else will be decided between Chelsea and us” – Kehl about signing Chukwuemeka again.

Chukwuemeka will be surely open for a move. He is aware that he is not in the plans of Enzo Maresca. The Italian boss prefers other players over him. As of now, Dewsbury-Hall is also expected to leave alongside Chukwuemeka.
