Recently Chelsea were linked with Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran. It is being said that the Blues reached an agreement with the striker.

Enzo Maresca’s opinion on the Aston Villa forward

According to CaughtOffside Chelsea’s new head coach Enzo Maresca does not want the Aston Villa striker. He want a striker with different attributes. Chelsea have shown interest for a number of world class strikers. The list includes Jhon Duran, Victor Oshimhen, Jonathan David. Among them Jonathan David want to experience English Premier League football. Several clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal are interested in the striker. So, there is a high competition to sign the striker.

In 2023-2024 season, Chelsea depended on their one and only number nine Nicolas Jackson. After finishing the 2023-2024 season they are searching for a striker who can compete with the former Villareal striker. The Blues have already signed Barcelona wonderkid Marc Guiu who is a talented striker. Multiple sources are claiming that Chelsea will loan out Marc Guiu to Sevilla. After the loan spell he will join Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Possibility of the transfer

Journalist Guillermo Arango has tweeted on the Jhon Duran transfer saga. He said, ‘On “standby” the transfer of Jhon Durán to Chelsea. Despite the agreement between clubs, the new coach Enzo Maresca wants a forward with other characteristics and for now the signing of the Colombian who has offers from other clubs (AC Milan, Bologna) is stopped.

According to his comment, it is clear that new Chelsea boss has halted the move. It was almost confirm that Jhon Duran will join Chelsea from Aston Villa. But the deal has stalled in its final stages. So, there is less possibility that the Colombian striker will join at the Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s number nine curse

After Didier Drogba and Diego Costa Chelsea haven’t found a stand out number nine. They brought in some of the big names such as Fernando Torres, Andrey Sevchenko, Radamel Falcao, Gonzalo Higuain, Timo Werner. None of them filled the number nine void at Stamford Bridge. Since then the Blues have been searching for a prolific number nine.

In the 2023-2024 season Todd Boehly signed Nicolas Jackson from Villareal. Although he missed a couple of important chances, he produced a better goalscoring stats than the previous ones. But there is one problem. There is no backup option of Nicolas Jackson. If he gets injured, there is no striker to replace him. That is why Chelsea is trying hard to find a striker.
