Chelsea overcame Liverpool 2-1 in an exciting Premier League match at Stamford Bridge that was decided by a last-ditch effort from 18-year-old Brazilian forward Estevao Willian after the clock had turned to the fifth minute of stoppage time. The match was a roller coaster of tension, with early brilliance, tactical shadow boxing and, at the end, a sequence of sheer wonder that left spectators gasping.
Early Strike and Liverpool’s Response
Chelsea opened the scoring in the 14th minute with Moises Caicedo firing a stunning long-range effort into the top corner, well out of Liverpool’s keeper’s reach. The Blues controlled the ball through most of the first half, and Alejandro Garnacho was inches from missing another goal in the minutes just before halftime.
However, Liverpool came out strong in the second half. Cody Gakpo took advantage of a clever assist from Alexander Isak to level the score in the 63rd minute. The Reds went in search of a winner, but Chelsea’s defense stood tall as both sides would play out the final minutes looking to catch each other on the break.
Estevao’s Stoppage-Time Heroics
With the match looking like it was heading for a draw, Chelsea’s Estevao came to the rescue. With the game heading in to its last gasps, Marc Cucurella whipped a pinpoint cross into the box and Estevao slid in at the far post to convert and send those inside the stadium wild. The young striker’s calmness in rolling finish also claimed all three points for Chelsea and his first Premier League goal.
Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca’s jubilant dance off the pitch after scoring earned him a second yellow and ensuing red, so he will sit out the next game against Nottingham Forest on October 18.
Author’s Opinion
Chelsea’s win has demonstrated his side of young talents and their resilience too, with Estevão being just one example. The Blues’ capacity to win with injuries and suspensions tests their depth and grit. Liverpool, meanwhile, have now lost three in a row and questions are growing about their consistency and squad harmony under coach Arne Slot. This game has unquestionably made another thrilling entry into the book of Premier League seasons.
