Everton have a stance clear on Jarrad Branthwaite following strong interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.
Everton stand firm on Branthwaite amid Chelsea links
Everton’s promising start to the campaign has been even more remarkable without Jarrad Branthwaite controlling their backline. The England defender has been sidelined by a hamstring issue, yet David Moyes’ men have managed to hold their ground.
Still, no one is surprised that the Toffees think highly of him. Branthwaite is on the rise from the last few seasons. He has caught the attention of PL clubs such as United, Chelsea and Tottenham. But, Everton have no plans to sell him.
As per Football Insider, the Merseyside side is not open to consider any approach when the window opens again in January.
Branthwaite is central to Everton’s long-term plans, the club believes he is key to their defence. Selling him during the January window would be pure risk. Branthwaite’s value to the squad outweighs any fee that might be offered. The club wants him tied down for years to come.
Defender isn’t leaving anytime soon
When a player draws the eyes of Man Utd and Chelsea, the rumours can easily affect. But, the Toffees are staying ahead of the noise. They’ve labeled Branthwaite as unsellable for January, a move that signals both ambition and intent.
For Moyes, keeping his star defender ensures he has the foundation to build on when Branthwaite returns to action. Everton know that rivals will come calling again, but for now, the answer remains the same.
Clubs like Chelsea and Man Utd may try to test Everton’s resolve. But, every sign points to the defender staying put. The Toffees are well aware that letting him go would hand direct rivals a serious upgrade. And that’s a risk they refuse to take.
Author’s Opinion:
Everton are right to play hardball. Branthwaite is too important to their setup. That said, selling him now would undo the progress they’ve started to make this season.
