Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana looks set for the exit door after a turbulent start to the 2025/26 campaign. Manchester United reached a verbal agreement with Turkish side Trabzonspor over a season-long loan, and Cameroon international Andre Onana has reportedly given the green light to complete the switch before Turkey’s transfer window closes on September 12.
From first choice to third in line
Onana’s season never recovered from a pre-season hamstring injury that sidelined him during United’s preparations. In his absence, Altay Bayındır claimed the No.1 spot for the first three league matches, while deadline-day arrival Senne Lammens pushed him further down the pecking order. This rapid fall has left Onana as United’s third-choice option just over a year after his £47 million (around £43.8m reported) arrival from Inter Milan.
The 29-year-old has played just one game this season, in the Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town. It became a nightmare of a night when he was at fault for at least one goal and subsequently missed in the penalty shootout. Coupled with high-profile mistakes of last season, it further raised questions over his reliability under the new coach Ruben Amorim.
Trabzonspor agreement nears completion
United and Trabzonspor are understood to have struck a verbal agreement for a loan with no fee and no purchase option. Reports confirm Onana has accepted the offer and is preparing to fly to Turkey. Trabzonspor are eager to register him quickly, hoping he could debut in their September 14 clash against Fenerbahce. The Turkish club plan to hand him the No.1 role and sweeten the deal with signing bonuses.

For Onana, the move feels like a reset button. His Old Trafford chapter has unraveled quickly, weighed down by errors and dwindling trust. A fresh start in Turkey could rebuild his confidence, but it also underlines how fast fortunes can change at Manchester United.
