Ex-Arsenal Striker Biereth Now Worth More Than Gyokeres

Mika Biereth who Arsenal sold for £4m last year now has more market value than Viktor Gyokeres.

Former Arsenal Man Biereth Now Outshining Big Names

Mika Biereth was once just another young talent in Arsenal’s academy. He was a name few fans expected to hear again.

But after leaving North London side for just £4m last year, the Dane has gone on to make headlines across Europe. The player was sold to Austrian side Sturm Graz after a few decent loan spells. He has since turned heads with his form.

In just half a season with Graz, he bagged in 14 goals in 25 matches. That earned him a move to French giants AS Monaco, where he took things up a level. Biereth scored 13 goals in 19 appearances for Monaco. He ended his season with 27 goals in 44 games across two clubs.

That kind of return has seen his value rise. The CIES Football Observatory rated him at around £62m. That is more than the current market value of Arsenal’s top target Viktor Gyokeres.

Gunners Attacking Search Raises Questions

Arsenal has needed a top striker since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. No player has hit the 20-goal mark for the team in a season since the 2019/20 season. This lack of a proper striker has made it difficult for strikers like Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Martin Odegaard have to carry the load by themselves.

Now, the club is prepared to splash £55m on Viktor Gyokeres in hopes of solving that issue. But, the rise of Biereth poses a fair question. The Gunners might have given up too early on a player already in their system.

Biereth was once level with Saka for goals at the youth level. But, he never made a senior appearance. He was loaned out, sold, and now finds himself among Europe’s most promising young strikers.

Gyokeres will likely prove to be the answer up front. However, Arsenal fans will surely be watching Biereth’s journey with a mix of regret and curiosity.
