Five Manchester United Players Won’t Be Happy That Eric Ten Hag Is Staying

Erik Ten Haag

Late on Tuesday Night, Manchester United confirmed that Eric Ten Hag will remain United’s manager for the upcoming campaign following a post-season review by the club’s board. The Dutchman was on the verge of leaving the club after United’s eight-place finish in the premier league last season. This is the United’s worst-ever finish in the Premier League. The Red Devils’s previous worst finish in the premier league was seventh under David Moyes in the 2013/14 season. But the FA Cup win over the premier league champion Manchester City might just save Eric Ten Hag’s career in Old Trafford.

Manager crisis in Manchester United

United is looking for a new manager before their upcoming season, but it seems like getting a good manager is hard for the Red Devils. Manchester United was trying to sign Ipswich’s boss Kieran Mckenna but failed to do so as the Englishman signed a new deal with Ipswich Town. The club is also targeting current England national team manager Gareth Southgate, former Chelsea and Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel, former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, and others. But the red devils failed to sign any of them and they ultimately keep their faith in Eric ten Hag.

But the Dutchman’s stay at Old Strafford will not be a good sign for some united players. Particularly five Manchester United players won’t be happy after Eric Ten Hag’s staying news. The first person who might devastated after the news is Jadon Sancho. The English youngster has a very bad relationship with Eric Ten Hag, which is beyond any kind of repair. While Eric Ten Hag stays at United, there seems to be no future for Sancho. However, Sancho’s stunning loan spell helped Borussia Dortmund to reach the final of the Champions League. Despite the 24-year-old’s brilliant performance, there is hardly any chance of getting playing time under Eric Ten Hag. The Dutchman might consider selling Sancho in the summer transfer window.

The next person who might not be happy is Amad Diallo of Ivory Coast. Last season, the young winger made only 12 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions, bagged two goals, and registered one assist. The 21-year-old scored the winner in the 121 minutes against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final helping Eric Ten Hag to win his second trophy as Manchester United’s manager. But there is very little chance of Amad getting more playing time under the Dutchman. Ten Hag still considers Anthony as the first-choice winger, who made 38 appearances for the Red Devils and scored only 3 goals and registered 2 assists.

The next player is Facundo Pellistri. The Uruguayan had a loan spell in Granada last season. The 22-year-old winger is hoping for more time under a new manager. But as Ten Hag is staying, it seems like the youngster will not get any playing time. Maybe, another loan spell is waiting for Facundo Pellistri.

Altay Bayindir also must be upset by the news. The Turkish goalkeeper joined United back in Sept 2023. Since then, the 26-year-old featured only one time for the Red Devils. The Dutch manager kept using Andre Onana as the first-choice goalkeeper for Manchester United. The question remains, will the Turkish goalkeeper get more playing time or leave the club in the future?

Finally, we have Christian Eriksen. The Denmark international joined Manchester United in July 2022. But the former Spurs midfielder failed to get more playing time, after the emergence of young players like Kobbie Mainno. Despite having one year left in his contract, the Dane is very concerned about his future, and eager to join a new team for more playing time.
