Former Arsenal Skipper Granit Xhaka Joins Sunderland

Granit Xhaka joins Sunderland, as the Black Cats land a Premier League veteran for their top-flight comeback.

A Statement Signing on EPL Return

Sunderland are signing ex-Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka this summer. As per Fabrizio Romano, the move will be completed for a fee of around £17m.

The Swiss midfielder returns to English football after being away for 2 years. He returns with a lot of experience. He arrived at Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach back in 2016. He played more than Seven seasons at the North London club.

Xhaka was an important player in the Arsenal midfield and had many attributes to offer. That includes leadership, the skill with the ball and aggression deeper in midfield position. That certainly contributed to the relationship he built with Arsenal fans, leaving him in their top player lists.

In the meantime, Sunderland are stepping back into the EPL after nine years. It suggests real ambition on the part of the club to go out and get a world-class player like Xhaka. It isn’t just another signing, it’s a statement for the rest of the league that they are here to compete.

Granit Xhaka Brings Title-Winning Experience

Before moving to Sunderland Xhaka was a key player for Bayer Leverkusen. The German team had signed in 2023 for a fee of around £21.4m. He won the Bundesliga in merely a season with Leverkusen. He proved further that he can produce at the highest level.

The Black Cats are now stronger due to him returning to England. They will not just to try and avoid relegation and potentially push for a mid-table spot.

The club is reportedly not done yet either, with Real Madrid youngster Gonzalo Garcia also on their radar. At just 21, the forward is showing promise with both Madrid and Spain’s U21 team.

If Sunderland manage to land him too, it could be another big step in building a very good side. Now, they have experienced heads like Xhaka and young blood potentially on the way. That said, the fans have every reason to believe this PL campaign could be one to remember.
