Garnacho to wear unusual Chelsea number

Alejandro Garnacho to wear a kit number at Chelsea that has the distinct honour of only having been worn by four players.

A unusual jersey number for Garnacho at Chelsea

Following a lengthy transfer saga last summer, Alejandro Garnacho has finally left Manchester United to join Chelsea. The winger had made it known he wanted a move, and Stamford Bridge was the place where he wanted to play.

Chelsea got their man for around £40m on a five year deal. Born and trained in Madrid at Atletico‘s Academy, Garnacho is starting fresh in Chelsea. He can’t wait to catch the eye of head coach Enzo Maresca. However, he has to wait until after the international break to walk onto a pitch with the rest of the Chelsea squad. But, excitement is already building on what Garnacho can achieve.

The kit that stands out

The big talking point is Garnacho’s shirt number. Chelsea confirmed he will wear No.49, a number rarely seen at the club. In fact, only four players in the Blues history have worn it: Scott Sinclair, John Swift, Jimi Tauriainen, and Richard Olise.

For Man United fans, this number will be familiar. Garnacho wore the same kit in his first two seasons at Old Trafford before switching to No.17.

Though No.49 doesn’t have a Stamford Bridge history. But, it fits Garnacho perfectly as the sort of player who forges his own path. It reminds us that talent can shine, no matter the numbers on your back.

Author’s Opinion:

Alejandro Garnacho’s transfer to Chelsea and No.49 reminds us that he is ready to make an impact. He is trying to break into the game he loves and commit to making a name for himself. It’s not about tradition, it’s an opportunity to show clarity and quality of mind. It’s about his attitude and ability.
