Gary Neville hits at Kieran Tierney

Arsenal

In this year’s Euro, many Arsenal players have been called up to play for their national team. Players like Saka, Rice, Raya, etc. Another player who has been called up is Scotland’s Kieran Tierney.

Almost every player selected in this year’s Euro have got their first victory. But Tierney and Scotland were thrashed by this year’s host country Germany in a convincing German victory of 5-1. With Scotland playing a back 5, Tierney was playing as a central back in this game.

Scotland are the only team till now who have conceded 5 goals in the first matchday. Due to their poor performance, they received a heavy bash from the fans and watchers on various internet platforms.

Gary Neville on Tierney

Gary Neville wasn’t satisfied with Tierney’s performance against Germany. According to him, he was caught in the moment and got carried away.

“What I thought was a significant moment in the first couple of minutes in the game was when one of their experienced players, Kieran Tierney, playing for Arsenal Football Club, he celebrated winning a goal kick like it was almost the last minute of the game.”

The ex-England and Manchester United right back wasn’t happy with the Scottish National team’s performance at all. However, Scotland still can qualify for the next round, if they win both of their remaining games in the group stage.

Kieran Tierney’s situation right now

Kieran Tierney was heavily criticized for his disaster of a performance against Germany. The Scottish left back is also going through a tough situation club wise. Tierney has played over 100 games for the Gunners but there is still no guarantee of him getting in the starting squad as many world class players are there in the same position. Some of them are Zinchenko, Timber, Tomiyasu and Kiwior. It is a tough situation for him to take a decision for his future.

The Scottish left back has mentioned on a recent interview that it will be very hard to fight for his position at Arsenal because of great squad depth. But he still has kept his hopes high with using Saliba’s experience as an example.

“But you never know in football. You get the rare case with [William] Saliba, where he came back after a couple of good seasons [out on loan] but you don’t see it too often with someone who has played for four years, left, and then come back to play again.”

Tierney was sent on a loan to the Spanish side Real Sociedad for a whole season. He did perform well under Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil. He was a solid left back in the previous season, with a tackle rate of 1.7 per game. His passing and ball holding has improved massively.

His situation at Arsenal is very tricky at the moment. Right now, no one is pursuing him but with a market value of $11 million, he could be a huge bargain for many clubs who are mainly on a rebuilding era.
