Harry Kane names the Chelsea defender he hated facing

Harry Kane named the toughest defender he ever faced, and he is a Chelsea legend. Harry Kane faced many defenders during his career, but he hated playing against one of them the most. The Spurs legend opened up about who he considers his toughest opponent, and it was none other than John Terry. The current Bayern Munich striker played many times against Chelsea during his days with Spurs. It is exciting to see why Kane thinks Terry is the hardest defender he played against.

Kane explains his toughest battles against Chelsea

Harry Kane and the Chelsea fans have never really gotten along, as Kane played for their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. However, after moving to the Bundesliga side Bayern Munich, Kane has improved his game significantly. Harry Kane is currently the first-choice striker for Thomas Tuchel in the upcoming World Cup. But back in his Premier League days, one of his own countrymen gave him nightmares while playing against the London club Chelsea.

Recently, in an interview with the current Spurs striker Dominik Solanke, Kane revealed that John Terry is the toughest defender he ever played against. Harry Kane and John Terry faced each other three times, and in those encounters, Harry Kane scored two goals. Despite scoring twice, Kane admitted that Terry kept him locked up for almost the entire game. The English defender played 546 games for the London Blues and also managed to score 47 goals for the club.

Terry’s aggressive defending and man-marking are the reasons why Kane has always valued him very highly. Kane also added, “He was good on the ball, but most importantly, he was really intelligent as well, which made him really tough to break through.” Although the Spurs legend played very few games against him, it was enough for him to understand the quality of the defender.

Kane feels Chelsea no longer have that level of defensive quality

Kane has faced the Blues many times in his career. Back in his Premier League days, he scored six goals in 14 appearances in the London derby. During his interview with Dominic Solanke, he stated that Chelsea no longer have defenders like John Terry. Back in the 2000s, Chelsea had one of the best defensive pairings in the whole of England. Nowadays, Chelsea’s main issue with consistency comes from their backline.

With Colwill’s cruciate ligament injury, Chelsea’s defence has become easier to break down. The pairing of Chalobah and Fofana has failed to provide the consistency that Chelsea need to win the league and perform well in the Champions League. With the Champions League back at Stamford Bridge, the fixtures have become tighter. Maresca plays Chalobah and Fofana in almost every major game due to the poor performances of the other defenders. Tosin’s recent performances have not been up to the mark. The Italian coach is in urgent need of reinforcements in the Blues’ backline.

Fan’s reaction

The fans are agreeing with their former rival striker. Chelsea fans once had one of the most solid defences in the entire Premier League. Now, they sit in fifth position in the Premier League with their starting centre-back ruled out until March next year. Fans are now putting pressure on the club’s management to bring in reinforcements during the winter transfer window.

Author’s insight

From the author’s point of view, Chelsea are in need of a centre-back. Although Maresca has demanded a new centre-back in the transfer window, the coach should give a chance to Hato. The former Ajax defender has played at centre-back before and knows how to handle pressure.
