Bayer Leverkusen are increasing their chances of signing Liverpool centre-back Jarell Quansah in the coming transfer window.
Leverkusen Eye Quansah to Fill Defensive Void
Jonathan Tah has headed to Bayern Munich on a free this June transfer window. Now, Bayer Leverkusen are moving quickly to fill the gap in their defence. Their top target is Liverpool’s promising young defender Jarell Quansah.
Talks between the two clubs have picked up pace, though the Reds aren’t openly looking to sell the 22-year-old centre-back. However, Leverkusen are reportedly preparing an offer in the region of €40m (£34m/$45.8m).
Quansah had limited starts at Anfield last season. But, he is believed to be open to more game time. That is especially with the 2026 World Cup in sight. Although, no official bid has been made yet, talks are progressing well and a deal could be struck very soon. If it goes through, it would be Leverkusen’s biggest signing ever, beating their 2019 record for Kerem Demirbay.
Liverpool’s Defence Under Review Amid Transfer Activity
Leverkusen are pushing for Quansah, Liverpool are making moves of their own. A £116m move for Florian Wirtz is almost done deal. The club could use the young defender’s transfer fee as a boost to fund that record-breaking move.
Meanwhile, the Reds are also watching Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi as a potential option. Guehi has only a year left on his contract. He could be available for a cheaper price, or potentially for free next summer.
Quansah is not the only uncertainty in Arne Slot’s defense. Meanwhile, French centre back Ibrahima Konate has not agreed a new deal yet. In addition, Joe Gomez’s future is still remains in the air. Given that, the coming summer transfer window looks busy for the Reds, as Arne Slot begins to shape the squad his way.
